Resonating Images from Peru accompanies the exhibition of the same name at MARRK, Hamburg, curated by Christine Chávez, Gisela Cánepa-Koch (PUC, Peru), and Walther Maradiegue (University of Bonn). The publication revisits documentary photographs of the people of Peru’s Lambayeque region taken by the German amateur researcher Hans Heinrich Brüning (1848–1928). Through contributions by local communities, scholars, and artists, these images are reinterpreted as living archives, opening decolonial readings from Afro-Peruvian and queer perspectives alongside contemporary artistic responses, including ceramic portraits by Enzo Miguel Matute and embroidered interventions by Marystela Camacho.
The publication consists of two interlocking 48-page booklets. One contains essays in German, English, and Spanish; the other presents a visual archive of original and reappropriated photographs alongside archival documents.
